The AfriForum branch in Utrecht erected two emergency water points to help the local community during water interruptions. The water points were erected seeing as the Amajuba District Municipality regularly fails its residents with regards to water supply as a result of a weakening water network, infrastructure breaking down and labour disputes.
“These tanks were erected at two strategic points in the town and will supply water to all the residents during emergency situations. AfriForum is grateful that we are able to help alleviate the community’s distress,” says André Homann, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Utrecht branch.
“We are witnessing daily how our infrastructure in KwaZulu-Natal is deteriorating and AfriForum is disappointed that the Municipality refuses to accept the community’s help. We can find solutions to the problems together. If not, then our AfriForum branches are looking to tackle the problems ourselves by investigating other possibilities,” says Eugene van Aswegen, AfriForum’s Provincial Coordinator for KwaZulu-Natal.
AfriForum’s Utrecht branch would like to thank the local high school and the Followers of Jesus that are part of the project.
