AfriForum wants to prevent Rand Water from cutting water again

AfriForum announced today that this organisation will continue with legal action against Rand Water after communities in the Govan Mbeki and Victor Khanye Municipality have already been without water for almost a week, because Rand Water implemented water restrictions due to the non-payment of these municipalities.

Despite Govan Mbeki Municipality’s temporary court order stipulating that Rand Water may not implement water restrictions, the civil rights organisation will continue with legal action. This is an important case to prevent communities’ access to water from being restricted.

“We cannot allow paying communities to be punished because of the non-payment of municipalities and will step in where municipalities are failing residents,” says Hennie Bekker, AfriForum’s District Coordinator.
