AfriForum’s Margate branch welcomes report regarding Ugu District Municipality

AfriForum’s Margate branch welcomes the report by the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) in KwaZulu-Natal which deals with various allegations of corruption in the Ugu District Municipality that were exposed.

This municipality recently released a notice and announced that D.D. Naidoo, the current Municipal Manager, will be suspended with immediate effect after the Ugu council granted him seven days to give feedback regarding the allegations against him.

“We are excited about the report and action taken, seeing as the Ugu District Municipality is suffering from poor service delivery that can be directly attributed to poor management and tender processes that are not being followed correctly,” says Cliff Holmes, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Margate branch.

“We are witnessing on a daily basis how the infrastructure in KwaZulu-Natal is deteriorating and AfriForum welcomes the report and will keep a close eye on proceedings. We will consider further steps if we suspect that cadres are being protected,” says Eugene van Aswegen, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for KwaZulu-Natal.

AfriForum’s Margate branch regularly places pressure on the Ugu District Municipality and will continue to do so. Residents that have any information about the municipality can send it to eugene.vanaswegen@antiek.afriforum.co.za.
