AfriForum’s branch in Delmas fills potholes

During the month of May the AfriForum branch in Delmas filled potholes in various streets in this town. However the project did not only kick off in May, this branch has been filling potholes in this town since December 2020. Even the senior citizens from one of the retirement homes filled potholes in their neighbourhood.

“Potholes are a huge problem in Delmas, especially when taken into account that Eloff and Sundra also fall under this area. Our local municipality is failing to maintain our towns. The branch therefore joined hands with various groups in town and begun working themselves to make the neighbourhood better and safer,” says Carel Botha, chairman of the AfriForum branch in Delmas.

It is noticeable that this project is so contagious in Delmas that on 22 May residents of informal communities spontaneously helped to fill potholes on the main road, Sarel Cilliers Street, that has fallen into disrepair.

“The filling of potholes remain a challenge in Delmas, especially as a result of many heavy vehicles travelling through our town illegally, but with the help of the communities we will continue to fill, fix, build and maintain our own neighbourhood. To wait for the local municipality to do something, is no longer an option,” says Botha.
