AfriForum’s anti-bully campaign team visits Solidarity Helping Hand’s Ons Plek in Strand

On 18 August 2021 the civil rights organisation AfriForum’s anti-bully campaign team visited the Solidarity Helping Hand’s Ons Plek in Strand in the Western Cape. This campaign serves as awareness of bullying in schools and includes information sessions with learners.

“It is important for AfriForum to work together with learners, teachers and parents to make a difference and stop bullying in schools. Safe schools also ensure a safe community not only now but in future too. Each learner who attends the anti-bully talk will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to act as leader in situations where bullying takes place, in other words to be bullyproof. Children are taught to distinguish between bullying and conflict. The aim of this talk is to empower learners”, says Leandie Bräsler, AfriForum’s Manager for Youth Leadership.

“Bullying is something children are confronted with every day. That is why it is important for us who work with children every day to make them aware of bully behaviour. Not only should children be aware of what bullying is, but they must also be equipped with the necessary knowledge on how to handle it. We are therefore so grateful for AfriForum’s practical awareness campaign regarding bullying. It is presented in a practical and clever manner that our children can easily understand,” says Joey Lotter, Manager of the Strand Community Centre.
