On 11 June 2021 the anti-bully campaign team of the civil rights organisation AfriForum visited Maroelaland Kleuterskool and Kleuterwoud Kleuterskool in Centurion. This campaign serves to create awareness of bullying in schools and includes information sessions with learners.
“It is important for AfriForum to work together with learners, teachers and parents to make a difference and stop bullying in schools. Safe schools also ensure a safe community not only now but in future too. Each learner who attends the anti-bully talk will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to act as leader in situations where bullying takes place, in other words to be bullyproof. Children are taught to distinguish between bullying and conflict. Children as young as three years old can display bully behaviour. It is especially important to already begin with awareness at nursery schools – the earlier the better. A difference can be made in primary and high schools if we already begin making a difference in nursery schools”, says Leandie Bräsler, AfriForum’s Manager for Youth Leadership.
