On 18 August 2021 the civil rights organisation AfriForum’s anti-bully campaign team paid a visit to Aitsa! Aftercare Centre in Stellenbosch. This campaign serves as awareness of bullying in schools and includes information sessions with learners.
“It is important for AfriForum to work together with learners, teachers and parents to make a difference and stop bullying in schools. Safe schools also ensure a safe community not only now but in future too. Each learner who attends the anti-bully talk will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to act as leader in situations where bullying takes place, in other words to be bullyproof. Children are taught to distinguish between bullying and conflict. The aim of this talk is to empower learners”, says Leandie Bräsler, AfriForum’s Manager for Youth Leadership.
“Our children are suffering under the burden of bullies that torment them emotionally or physically. It was a huge blessing to have AfriForum with us with their anti-bully campaign where our children were equipped with the necessary skills to handle and address bully behaviour. The awareness that bullying is wrong and that children must stand up against it really empowers our children to not be victims, but rather be advocates against this evil. Thank you, AfriForum, for your wonderful work,” says Marietjie Steyn, Project Manager at Aitsa! Aftercare Centre.
