It is the second year that AfriForum presented the Walking with Dignity discipline competition in schools to create awareness for and promote the value of discipline in schools. It is a great honour for AfriForum to announce that Middelburg Hoërskool was this year named the school with the best discipline policy. Nina Mostert, a Grade 11 learner from the Helpmekaar Kollege, received the learner’s award for best discipline.
The competition is part of a campaign that AfriForum started in reaction to increasing concerns over poor discipline by which schools are characterised.
According to Carien Bloem, Campaign Coordinator for Education at AfriForum, learners’ work performance suffer as a result of poor discipline. It also causes more teachers to leave the industry as poor discipline makes it impossible to provide quality education. Clear guidelines and rules are synonymous with effective education and learning.
