AfriForum’s Oudtshoorn branch and Oudtshoorn residents say NO to excessive increases in municipal and tax tariffs that are proposed in the new concept budget for the 2021/2022 financial year.
Despite an annual inflation rate of 3,2 %, the municipality proposes an increase of 14,59% for electricity, 6% for property tax, 8% for water provision, 8% for sanitation and 9% for refuse removal – in most cases double the inflation rate.
We demand an adapted budget without any increases that will consider the economic distress that faces Oudtshoorn residents, businesses and the agricultural sector, rather than exacerbating it. The municipality is on a road of self-destruction. Let’s take an active part in preventing this by starting with this petition.
