The AfriForum branch in Machadodorp gave input into a planned mine on the De Kroon farm in the Machadodorp area.
This action follows after Singo Consulting brought it to our attention that Legare Mining Services plans to mine coal. This is the second application of Legare Mining Services that Singo Consulting has launched. The first application, where AfriForum was involved, was made in the Groot Marico area..
Singo Consulting sent only a background information sheet to AfriForum and no further documentation or invitation was sent after the public participation process.
In 2019 AfriForum also accused Singo Consulting of fraud after a mining application’s environmental impact study was completed by them. Alleged plagiarism was committed in this impact study of various impact studies that are available on the internet. This mine would have been opened within the buffer zone in front of the Kruger National Park.
“This company did not comply with the necessary legislation to complete the public participation process successfully and we will contest the process further if the public participation process cannot be followed legally,” says Hennie Bekker, District Coordinator for AfriForum in the Lowveld.
