AfriForum’s branch in Centurion has since its establishment in the middle of last year undertaken various projects in the community. Some of the projects were, inter alia, repairing roads, cutting grass around dangerous crossings, assisting the community regarding municipal matters as well as maintaining parks.
These projects were undertaken because the municipality themselves did not perform their duties. AfriForum’s Centurion branch could no longer look on while problems were piling up and decided to do the work themselves to create a cleaner and healthier environment for the whole community. The branch bought equipment to make the work easier and to finish projects faster and more effectively.
Last week the Tshwane Metro themselves began to cut the grass in parks and at pedestrian crossings and dangerous crossings. Other parts of Centurion are also now also being cleaned up by the municipality. Some of these areas pose a huge threat to pedestrians and joggers because criminals can easily hide in the long grass.
“This is an excellent example of pressure being applied to the municipality to perform their duties. We are thankful that the municipality is finally starting to address problems in the community. The community and the municipality can accomplish so much more if they work together. AfriForum will continue to address problems and to create a safer and healthier environment for all,” says Jp Nel, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Greater Pretoria South.
“It is now more important than ever before to jump in and make a difference in your community,” Nel concluded.
The branch plans to undertake various large projects this year and would like to invite the community to become more involved. Visit the AfriForum branch in Centurion’s Facebook page and also join the Telegram app. Download the Telegram app free of charge and search for @AfriForumBuurtBot.
