The AfriForum branch in Nelspruit assisted the Pro Gratia School to repair its classrooms as part of the civil rights organisation’s #YourTown project.
The Pro Gratia School near Nelspruit is a school for learners with learning disabilities. The school is under enormous financial pressure and the local branch regularly helps where necessary.
Four classrooms at the school were recently damaged after violent thunderstorms and a break-in. The branch assisted with repairs to these classrooms, as well as with further overall repairs. The window frames of classrooms were replaced, the underside of floors was reinforced, a new wooden covering was installed over the existing floor and gaps in the wooden panels of the classrooms were filled up.
Plans are already being made to repair another five classrooms so that all the classes are eventually renovated. The project ought to be concluded before the end of December.
“It is our duty to assist institutions such as Pro Gratia. The school performs an important function by assisting children with learning disabilities,” says Devon McCullough, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Nelspruit branch.
