AfriForum’s East Rand neighbourhood watches take part in the patrol

On 18 September 2020 AfriForum’s neighbourhood watches in Alberton, Boksburg, Brakpan, Benoni, Edenvale, Germiston, Kempton Park and Springs took part in their respective areas in the civil rights organisation’s national patrol to increase policing visibility. The patrol was undertaken in cooperation with the SAPS, local community policing forums and other neighbourhood watches.

In all, 234 AfriForum members and 308 other patrollers covered 13 869 km with 219 vehicles. The neighbourhood watches assisted with 25 incidents.

“Visibility plays a critical role in crime prevention and AfriForum’s Gauteng neighbourhood watches will continuously take on projects and organise regular patrols in cooperation with the SAPS and safety institutions to put a stop to crime. AfriForum’s safety team would like to thank the SAPS and CPF for the excellent cooperation and coordination during the mass patrol,” says Stephanus (Butch) Blignault, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the East Rand.
