AfriForum’s Centurion branch cleaned up the channel in Broadway Street South, Valhalla, on 3 July 2021 with the help of the community.
The AfriForum branch received several complaints from the community over the condition of the channel. Criminals use this route to gain access to houses in the area where they break in and they use the overgrown channel as a hiding place. The branch went to work and cleaned up the area to increase visibility and improve safety in the area.
“I want to thank every member of the community and the organisations that were involved in this initiative. Some community members brought their own equipment, and truckloads and trailers full of rubbish were removed,” says André de Bruyn, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Centurion branch.
“AfriForum will continue to initiate actions such as this to make the community a safer place for all. It is important that communities engage in projects by themselves to improve their environment, rather than waiting for the municipality. We are grateful for everyone who was involved and are looking forward to undertake similar projects in the future,” says Jp Nel, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Greater Pretoria South.
The branch is planning several projects during the year and invites the community to follow its Facebook page and to join its groups on the Telegram app.
