On 19 April the civil rights organisation AfriForum’s anti-bully campaign team and Matteus visited Laerskool Pietersburg-Oos (Oosskool) and Laerskool Pietersburg-Suid (Suidskool). This campaign serves to create awareness of bullying in schools. It is important for AfriForum to make a difference and stop bullying in schools. Each learner who attends the anti-bullying talk will be equipped with the knowledge to stop bullying.
“It is important for AfriForum to work together with learners, teachers and parents to make a difference and stop bullying in schools. Each learner who attends the anti-bullying talk will be equipped with the knowledge to act as leader in situations where bullying takes place. The aim of this talk is to empower learners. Learners will walk out with the necessary knowledge to understand the difference between bullying behaviour and conflict, as well as the different forms that bullying behaviour can take on and what they can do to become bully resistant”, says Leandie Bräsler, AfriForum’s Manager for Youth Leadership.
“Bullying behaviour is not acceptable and to make someone else feel bad so that you can feel better is definitely not the answer. It is very important to create awareness of bullying behaviour at our schools, because if our children are equipped with the right tools and skills to stop bullying, we will slowly but surely also be able to make a difference in our society – not only now, but in the future too,” says Lylani Seitz of AfriForum’s branch in Pietersburg.
AfriForum appeals to parents and teachers to act proactively. It is your duty as a parent to keep an eye on your child and to listen to them. Be aware! It is important to take care of our children’s spiritual wellbeing. They are indeed the leaders of the future.
