On 4 December 2020, the civil rights organisation AfriForum in cooperation with other role-players in Vereeniging made representation to the Emufuleni Municipality after residents of Three Rivers were without power for the past three weeks. This follows after the municipality failed to perform their duty by not repairing a main cable.
AfriForum made representation to the municipality so that the municipality can solve the problem caused by their negligence, and to repair the power supply to the residential area as soon as possible. The municipality already confirmed that they received the representation.
Numerous business enterprises were hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and will not close as usual during December. The Emfuleni Municipality is failing every taxpayer in the community and plunging them into deeper waters.
“The misappropriation of tax money annually results in the mismanagement of municipalities and end users suffer because of it. The fact that Emfuleni is not fulfilling their obligation, is disturbing and the paying consumers get the worst of it,” says Dewet Ungerer, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the West Rand.
AfriForum wants to encourage role-players in the community to contact AfriForum to become part of the solution.
