A tavern owned by various owners and that has existed for more than five years, has closed its doors after almost a year’s fighting.
Complaints submitted to the Amsterdam Police Station by various residents included disturbance of the peace like alcohol abuse on the street, loud music and vehicles that destroy the lawns of people in the vicinity, as well as people who threaten and attack each other with weapons. These complaints were thus far simply ignored.
“After the umpteenth complaint that fell on deaf ears, AfriForum’s Piet Retief branch decided to address residents’ frustrations. The branch collected enough proof to submit to the Liquor Board, and eventually succeeded in getting rid of the tavern and its problems,” says Bronwen Pretorius, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Highveld.
