The AfriForum neighbourhood watches in Kempton Park, Brakpan, Edenvale and Springs held a visibility patrol on Friday 11 October 2019 in cooperation in the SAPS and the Community Policing Forum of Bakerton.
“The community of Bakerton is currently burdened by a wave of crime, especially carjackings and smash and grab incidents. As a community, we cannot just accept this; it is therefore important to hold patrols to increase visibility and improve cooperation with other safety institutions. In this way we can actually help to improve the safety of our communities,” says Cornel Swart, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Springs branch.
The SAPS arrested an assault suspect after the neighbourhood watches and the SAPD had patrolled various areas in the Springs CBD.
“AfriForum encourages communities to prioritise their safety themselves. They can help fight crime in their areas by joining safety structures such as our neighbourhood watch,” Swart concludes.
