During a raid the AfriForum neighbourhood watch in Edenvale on 19 February 2018 – in conjunction with Top Security, Mamba Special Ops, the Community Policing Forum (CPF), the Genesis K 9 Unit and the 24/7 Security K9 Unit – assisted the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) to apprehend two alleged drug dealers.
The EMPD received information from within the community that there might be drugs and drug dealers in two buildings in Edenvale and, together with the security firms, accordingly infiltrated the buildings around 4:00, while AfriForum’s neighbourhood watch team and the other role players blocked various exit roads.
During this raid 14 bags of cocaine and two bags of dagga, with a total value of R4 500, were confiscated. Two arrests were also made.
“The Edenvale neighbourhood watch will continually aid the EMPD, in conjunction with other safety institutions, to combat crime and promote safety,” says Derelle Steyn, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Edenvale branch neighbourhood watch.
“The neighbourhood watch wants to make a favourable difference in our community, but we are only as strong as our membership. We therefore call on the Edenvale community to become involved with the AfriForum branch. Members of the public can phone our emergency number (083 432 1828) in case of an emergency or for more information,” Steyn concludes.
