AfriForum’s Apies River, Bronkhorstspruit, Hennops River Valley, Moot, Moreleta Park, Meyerspark, Pretoria West and West Moot neighbourhood watches participated in cooperation with many other safety institutions, security firms and the SAPS in the civil rights watchdog’s national patrol in the Tshwane Metro on 19 October 2018 from 16:00 until 06:00 the following morning.

Fifteen AfriForum neighbourhood watches, 329 patrollers and 164 vehicles were involved in this patrol, and more than 3 800 km were travelled during 777 man-hours. Four incidents were successfully resolved in cooperation with the SAPS.

“Some of the incidents reported during the patrol included trespassing on private property, armed suspects and an abandoned vehicle,” says Tiaan Oosthuizen, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Northern Pretoria.

“AfriForum launches national patrols to promote visibility, cooperation and the safety of our communities. We have to prioritise our own safety without being dependent on the State,” says Lambert de Klerk, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Southern Pretoria.

SMS “Buurtwag” to 45341 (R1) to become involved.
