It works on other countries

Countries in Asia (like South Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong) fare much better in managing the COVID-19 pandemic than other countries. One of the noteworthy differences between these countries in Asia and the rest of the world is that the majority of their citizens wear masks in public.  If a plan works elsewhere, it is worth the effort to try it here.

COVID-19 spread

One of the characteristics of COVID-19 that helps it to spread quickly is that many people who have it show no or hardly any symptoms or show these only after a few days. During this period of showing no symptoms, the disease can be transmitted from a sick person to other people.

Home-made masks can also help

Medical personnel like doctors and nurses use N95 and surgical masks to protect themselves. However, research proved that a mask made from a double layer of pure cotton (for example T-shirt fabric) that fits over your mouth and nose help much to curb the spread of sputum droplets – and you can make these masks yourself!

Why should you wear a mask in public?

There are three reasons why it is sensible to wear a mask in public (for example in a supermarket).

  1. You protect other people by not spreading the virus if you may have it.
  2. You protect yourself by decreasing the chances of contracting the virus when you are in the public.
  3. You limit touching your mouth and face because something covers your face.

What can you do?

There are six things that you can do:

  1. Make a mask for yourself and your loved ones. (Follow the directions on masks4all.co.)
  2. If you can, make masks for your community. (Always heed the lockdown rules.)
  3. Wear a mask when you are in public.
  4. Use masks in the correct manner.
  5. Share the message that it is good to wear masks in public.
  6. Keep on doing the other things necessary to limit the transmission of the virus: Maintain social distancing; wash your hands regularly; do not touch your face; maintain good hygiene; and keep your work and home environment clean.

You can make a difference!

You and your community aren’t powerless in the fight against COVID-19. Participate in this project and bring hope by making a positive difference!
