On 21 September 2018 AfriForum’s neighbourhood watch in Harrismith held a successful roadblock together with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Community Patrollers from the Muslim community. During this roadblock three arrests were made, including two for driving under the influence of alcohol and one for past offences.
“We realise that it is important to work together with the local role players in the community. Together we can accomplish larger tasks and make Harrismith a safe environment again,” says Michelle Peens, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Eastern Free State.
“We would like to express our gratitude toward the SAPS in Harrismith for the opportunity to be able to work with them. AfriForum’s Harrismith neighbourhood watch undertakes to make use of each opportunity for similar cooperation and we would like to encourage the local community to help us with this,” says Peens.
