AfriForum’s Bellville neighbourhood watch on 17 September assisted the SAPS to bring a suspected burglar to book.

The suspected burglar was seen where he burgled two houses, after which the SAPS was summoned. The burglar could however not be tracked down immediately, but Tommy van Zyl, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Cape Town North branch and member of the organisation’s Bellville neighbourhood watch, determined where he planned to spend the night and took the SAPS to the burglar’s sleeping accommodation where he was positively identified as the suspected burglar. The SAPS consequently arrested him.

“Good continuous planning and relations between all role-players ensured that the suspected burglar could be tracked down and taken into custody immediately. This is once again proof that cooperation and relationship maintenance between all role-players are of the utmost importance,” says Van Zyl.
