The AfriForum branch in Witbank recently donated 137 trees to various schools and institutions in Witbank as part of the civil rights organisation’s annual arbour month project. The branch also assisted in planting the trees.
The branch paid a visit to the following schools and institutions: Hoërskool Generaal Hertzog, Laerskool Panorama, HTS Witbank, Witbank SPCA, WH de Klerk Skool, Laerskool Kragbron, St. Thomas Aquinas School, Cambridge Witbank Christian Academy, Laerskool Klipfontein, Laerskool Tasbet, Oak Feathers Home, New Life Children’s Home and Audeamus School.
“To plant a tree is an act of faith for the future. When you plant a tree you do not know if you will enjoy the shade of the tree yourself, but you have belief that your children and grandchildren will indeed have the privilege,” says Alf Friess, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Witbank branch.
“This year we would like to encourage communities across the country to also plant indigenous trees at their homes, schools, churches, community centres, old-age homes and parks during arbour month,” says Bronwen Pretorius, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Highveld.
