AfriForum’s Springs branch and neighbourhood watch worked hard in August to keep the community safe. This neighbourhood watch patrolled 5 578 km in total during patrols and 557 hours were spent on it this month. These patrols were held in the streets of Springs in an attempt to prevent crime in the area.
The branch further assisted in an armed robbery, three motor vehicle accidents and fighting two fires. Each patroller is trained to handle a range of incidents within the framework of the law.
Meanwhile the branch also focused on the reopening of local dumping sites and on solving problems around the sewage outfall in the area.
“These are volunteers sacrificing their time to serve the Springs community in a selfless manner to ensure a better and safer future for each one of us,” says Cornel Swart, chairman of AfriForum’s Springs branch.
“It was truly a remarkable month for AfriForum’s Springs branch. Each person owns it to themselves to become involved in an organised community structure,” says Dewet Ungerer, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the East Rand.
