The AfriForum branch in Rustenburg has sent a letter to the Rustenburg Local Municipality demanding a due date for completion of the ongoing bus lane construction in the city centre.
Considering that the pleas of local businesses in Rustenburg have repeatedly been ignored by the Municipality, these businesses decided to approach the AfriForum branch. The bus lane construction has been dragging on for so long that businesses have since been forced to dismiss about 60% of their employees due to the negative impact on the infrastructure in the area, which includes damaged telephone lines, water pipes and sewage systems.
“The Municipality needs to make the completion of the bus lane their top priority to enable local businesses to resume their daily operations, as well as to ensure that the community is no longer impacted by this problem,” says Charné Blignaut, AfriForum’s Assistant Coordinator for Marico.
