AfriForum’s neighbourhood watch in Meyers Park, Pretoria, launched two separate operations in cooperation with the Silverton SAPS, as well as security firms and other local neighbourhood watches.

The first operation focused mainly in identifying shebeens and confiscating alcohol available for illegal purchasing. Due to time limitations only one shebeen could be acted on, but the SAPS nonetheless thanked AfriForum’s neighbourhood watch for their help, which had led to arrests.

Fifteen Meyers Park neighbourhood watch members also participated successfully in the second operation aimed at removing illegal squatters from the area.

“I would like to thank our members for their unselfish contribution in supporting the community.  This has been a major success for AfriForum, especially in terms of the excellent cooperation with the Silverton SAPS,” says Andre Badenhorst, Chairperson for Safety at AfriForum’s Meyers Park branch.

“Neighbourhood watches are there to offer help to the local SAPS. This is an excellent example of this type of cooperation, which is essential to our community’s safety,” says Lambert de Klerk, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Gauteng.
