The AfriForum branch in Margate recently saw to it that illegal electrical connections, at a supply near the Mashinenge informal settlement, were removed. This follows after AfriForum’s neighbourhood watch received information about electricity being stolen from the informal settlement. Key role players worked together to remove the cables.

“Illegal electrical connections claim numerous lives annually and we are grateful that the SAPS, other security institutions and Eskom could work so effectively together with our neighbourhood watch,” says Wessel Pretorius, Safety Representative of the Margate branch.

“Teamwork such as this confirms the effectiveness and necessity of a local neighbourhood watch and we encourage the community to join us,” says Adolf Oosthuizen, Chairperson of the AfriForum branch in Margate.
