AfriForum’s greater Brandwag farm watch outside Mossel Bay received patrol and self-defence training on 25 November 2017. Almost 120 members of the community attended these training sessions. The self-defence training was presented by Tiger Kai Gymnasium under leadership of AfriForum and the patrol training by Johandré van Zyl, AfriForum’s Regional Safety Coordinator for the Northern, Eastern and Western Cape.
“With farm murders and attacks increasing sharply in the Western Cape, it is important for us to be proactive and try to prevent farm attacks as far as possible. To make this happens, we encourage communities to become involved with safety structures like AfriForum’s neighbourhood and farm watches,” says Van Zyl.
According to Van Zyl AfriForum currently focusses strongly on safety. “It is important for us that communities are trained to enable them to secure themselves with the support from AfriForum,” Van Zyl concludes.
