On 28 February 2019 AfriForum’s Edenvale neighbourhood watch in conjunction with various safety organisations and the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) executed a safety operation in Edenvale, where various stolen and illegal goods were seized.

This safety operation was planned over the past two months, during which hot spots were identified and all relevant role players were involved.

During the operation drugs to the estimated value of R50 000, illegal cigarettes to the estimated value of R25 000, stolen goods estimated at R25 000, various stolen vehicles and 30 flat screen televisions were all seized.

AfriForum would like to thank the following institutions for their dedication and cooperation to help curb crime: AfriForum’s Edenvale neighbourhood watch, the National Narcotics team, the National Crime Intelligence Unit, the EMPD’s Special Weapons and Tactics (Swat) team, the Department of Immigration’s Counterfeit Unit, K9 units, CPG, Cortax, 24/7, Mamba Security, the EMPD’s Local Bylaw Regulation team, Lionsgate Security, SAICB, PTA K9, GTP Saturation Unit and Tracker Connect.

“This success proves that various organisations can, despite differences they may have, work together to make a positive contribution in our communities. Standing together, working together and planning together is indispensable in making a difference, and proactive action is needed to fight crime,” says Hillel Coetzer, AfriForum’s Head of Safety for the northern region.

“I believe that we can accomplish even more successes in the future, and we will continue to launch information-driven actions,” says Linda McKenzie, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Edenvale branch.
