AfriForum’s East Rand neighbourhood watches receive training in scene handling

The AfriForum neighbourhood watches in Boksburg, Brakpan, Edenvale, Kempton Park, Germiston and Springs on 17 September 2019 received training in scene handling. This training was presented in Brakpan under the leadership of inspp. Eruka Mackenzie and Christo Botha of the EMPD.

Approximately 95 people attended the function, which primarily focussed on the handling and safeguarding of crime and accident scenes. At the conclusion of the presentation, a basic accident scene was simulated to apply the theory in a practical manner. Paramedics that were involved in the training also had the opportunity to demonstrate to the participants how they are allowed to pull out a patient from a vehicle.

“The training was incredibly educational and interactive – the metro police officials continuously gave advice and leadership and emphasised the importance that neighbourhood watches need to be well-trained when dealing with scene handling. The community is the eyes and ears of the police and cooperation between the different safety institutions leads to the successful combating of crime,” says Gerhard Cilliers, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Brakpan branch.
