Laerskool Northmead in Benoni recently launched a food parcel project for learners in need. This prompted AfriForum’s branch in Benoni to donated 60 face masks to the school’s staff on 21 April 2020. The masks will help protect the staff against COVID-19 when they receive and deliver food parcels.
This follows after the civil rights organisation launched a national project over the past two weeks during which 15 000 bottles hand sanitiser were donated to various police stations, emergency services and old-age homes. AfriForum distributed a further 4 000 bottles hand sanitiser and 3 200 face masks on 15 April 2020 to its 53 branches in the northern region to support communities.
“It is important that we take hands with institutions like schools that want to help relieve the need in their community during lockdown, thereby also supporting the community ourselves,” says Stephanus (Butch) Blignault, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the East Rand.
AfriForum appeals to communities to regularly visit the organisation’s Facebook page to get the latest information about the nationwide lockdown and COVID-19.
