On 2 August 2018 AfriForum Youth’s Maties branch cleaned up the Jan Marais Nature Reserve at the University of Stellenbosch (US) and did general maintenance work to create a healthy and safe environment for students. The Jan Marais Nature Reserve celebrates its 103rd anniversary this year and is even older than the university, which has its centenary celebrations this year.
“The maintenance of heritage sites is very dear to AfriForum and it is important to us to conserve these areas for future generations,” says Jenise Janse van Rensburg, Chairperson of AfriForum Youth’s Maties branch.
“Iconic landmarks such as this nature reserve plays a big role in the history and student culture of Maties students. For this reason, we must help to conserve it,” says Juandré de Bruyn, Deputy Chairperson of AfriForum Youth’s Maties branch.
