AfriForum welcomes the arrest of Bongani Bongo, ANC member of parliament and former Minister of State Security, for his alleged involvement in a corruption case being investigated by the Hawks.
“This arrest is a step in the right direction. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) however needs to be held responsible to prevent ANC cadres in the NPA from exercising their influence to protect corrupt officials against justice,” says Ian Cameron, AfriForum’s Head of Community Safety.
“Even though Bongo was already released on bail this morning and the case will only be heard in January 2020, we hope that justice will prevail and that the NPA will prosecute him without fear, favour or prejudice,” concludes Cameron.
