The Tshwane Metro promised AfriForum at a management meeting on 29 October 2019 that it would reimburse pre-paid electricity consumers in November who had paid the wrong tariff early this year.
This announcement was made after the Tshwane Metro had implemented an increased tariff (not approved by Nersa) between July and the middle of August. After AfriForum intervened, the tariff was changed back to the approved Nersa tariff. Consumer who paid the increased tariff will now receive unit credits.
According to Jaco Grobbelaar, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Greater Pretoria, AfriForum welcomes the announcement and the meeting was held in good spirit. “We are happy that the corrections will be made and that we can link a date to it. It is also positive that the Metro wants to resolve issues in this manner rather than be compelled by legal action.”
Residents who have pre-paid meters and paid the increased tariff, can follow this link to provide their details to AfriForum for follow-up with the Metro if the correction is not affected: https://antiek.afriforum.co.za/en/tshwane-electricity-tariff-increase/.
