AfriForum summarily suspended one of the organisation’s branch members, whose name cannot be made public yet, in the Western Cape after it came to the organisation’s attention that the particular member was arrested for assault.

Another AfriForum member from the same branch came across the incident, after which he organised for the victim to be taken to hospital and then also made an eye witness statement to the police.

“AfriForum condemns in the strongest manner all forms of violence and the violation of a person’s dignity, irrespective of who the victim or perpetrator is. Any person who makes themselves guilty of any form of violence or the violation of someone’s dignity, must carry the consequences,” says Kallie Kriel, AfriForum’s CEO.

“The law must take its course. AfriForum believes in a society which is built on mutual recognition and respect. In the midst of the growing polarisation in the country AfriForum implores everyone in the country to promote good relationships between communities and individuals and to refrain from any action that infringes on another’s dignity and physical safety,” adds Kriel.
