The civil rights organisation AfriForum is concerned about the threatening storm expected along the Western Cape coast on Wednesday. According to the weather bureau the storm promises to be the worst in 30 years.
“AfriForum branches and neighbourhood watches in the Western Cape are already on standby to offer assistance to the authorities where necessary,” says Thomas van Dalen, AfriForum’s Provincial Coordinator for the Western Cape.
The public can contact Cape Town’s disaster management centre at 080 911 4357 or the emergency control room of a local municipality. Members of the public are advised to store local emergency numbers on their cell phones.
“People must as far as possible stay indoors and off the roads,” concludes Van Dalen.
