The AfriForum branch in Kimberley handed over an application in accordance with the Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2000 (PAIA) to the Sol Plaatje Local Municipality to obtain the qualifications of senior municipal officials.
This follows after the branch tried for the past year to make an appointment with the Municipal Manager in order to discuss poor service delivery. Despite several attempts the meeting has still not realised.
AfriForum will investigate officials of this Municipality to determine if they comply with the minimum requirements and regulations of the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.
“In this manner, we will try to determine where the problem is. The community is even questioning whether there really is a Municipal Manager at the Municipality,” says Linja van Wyk, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Northern Cape.
