AfriForum is currently launching a petition against the planned new biogas plant which the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) wants to build near the residential areas in and around Lynnwood Road.

Lambert de Klerk, AfriForum’s district coordinator for Gauteng North, says that AfriForum is not opposed against the building of such a biogas plant seeing that it generates green energy. “We are however opposed against the area that is earmarked for the planned plant. This is a heavily populated area with many adjacent residential properties. A plant such as this will probably affect adjacent areas of up to 3 km,” says de Klerk.

“I want to appeal to members of the community to sign the petition on AfriForum’s website to oppose the building of the plant. AfriForum will hand in the signed petition with commentary to submit our complaint,” says de Klerk.

He furthermore asks that people who want to take a stand against this should register as an interested and affected party with CHAND environmental consultants by sending an email to info@chand.co.za and also on www.no2biogas.org.za.

AfriForum wants to appeal to the various communities in the Tshwane Metro to become involved with their local AfriForum branch and to actively take part in the branch activities. For more information about this, send an email to lambert.deklerk@antiek.afriforum.co.za.
