AfriForum was one of the organisations that had been invited to attend last week’s summit in KwaMashu, Durban, which was hosted by Willies Mchunu, Premier of KwaZulu-Natal. Various mayors from this province, as well as MECs and community leaders – including leaders from the Khoisan community – attended the summit.
According to Mchunu this was the first of numerous platforms where communities can provide input, while more platforms were planned on local level.
“AfriForum appreciates the invitation and feels that it is very important that all spheres of society are given the opportunity to provide input. We agree with the Premier: KwaZulu-Natal comprises of many races and we have to find a way to make it a better province,” says Eugene van Aswegen, AfriForum’s Regional Coordinator for KwaZulu-Natal. “AfriForum plans on partaking in future summits and providing input in a continuous manner.”
