The civil rights organisation AfriForum officially established a farm watch in Philippi on 6 November. The farm watch in Philippi will function under AfriForum’s branch in Cape Town North. Other AfriForum neighbourhood watches that function under the Cape Town North branch, is the Bellville neighbourhood watch that have had various successes.
Before a farm watch can be established, 30 codes of conduct must be signed. The management consist of the following members: Gunther Rix (farm watch leader), Anet Liebenberg (secretary), Mark Mcelhone and Volkmar Engelke who will both serve as group leaders.
“The community of Philippi realised that they will have to take responsibility for their own safety and look forward to working in cooperation with the SAPS and other local safety institutions and roleplayers to protect their environment,” says Johardt van Heerden, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Boland.
AfriForum offers specific benefits and safeguards their neighbourhood watch members and members also receive continuous training.
The community is encouraged to become involved with this AfriForum branch and neighbourhood watch to make a real difference: SMS :”Cape Town North” to 45265 (R1).
