AfriForum’s Crush Corruption workshop was presented on 5 June 2018 in Port Elizabeth. This follows after the civil rights watchdog’s anti-corruption unit was recently also expanded to local government level to expose corruption taking place on this level with the help of the community.

Adv. Gerrie Nel, Head of AfriForum’s Private Prosecution Unit, and Wico Swanepoel, the organisation’s Legal Advisor for Local Corruption, addressed the community of Port Elizabeth and defined corruption in a practical manner during the workshop.

“Corruption is a serious problem for the South African society and each of us has the obligation to expose corrupt behaviour,” says Dirk Burger, Chairperson of the AfriForum branch in Port Elizabeth.

Adv. Nel explained what corruption entails and how it can be denounced. He emphasised the importance of, amongst others, good investigative work, normal and expert witnesses, thorough documentary proof, whistle-blowers and the use of technology to investigate and expose corruption.
