The AfriForum branches in the Greater East Rand received hand sanitiser and face masks on 19 April 2020 to help protect them and the community from contracting COVID-19. A total of 48 five litre bottles hand sanitiser and 560 face masks was delivered to various branches for distribution where the need arises. Some of the East Rand branches have already delivered hand sanitiser and masks to local old age homes.
This follows after the civil rights organisation launched a national project over the past two weeks during which 15 000 bottles hand sanitiser were donated to various police stations, emergency services and old-age homes. AfriForum on 15 April 2020 distributed a further 4 000 bottles hand sanitiser and 3 200 face masks to its 53 branches in the northern region to support communities.
“AfriForum’s East Rand branches offer continued support to their respective communities to ensure that they receive the necessary help to try and curb the spread of COVID-19. It is now the time to take hands and support each other,” says Stephanus (Butch) Blignault, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the East Rand.
AfriForum is making an appeal to communities to regularly visit the organisation’s Facebook page to get the latest information about the nationwide lockdown and COVID-19.
