AfriForum welcomes the austere budget speech that Finance Minister Tito Mboweni delivered today.
“The curtailment of state expenditure should have been done a long time ago, and it is encouraging to see that Treasury has finally realised this. More could however be done in this regard and the question remains whether government has the political will to adhere to the budget cuts that Mboweni announced today,” says Natasha Venter, Senior Campaign Officer at AfriForum.
AfriForum also welcomes the decision that personal income tax for certain brackets has been lowered, even though taxpayers will still have to pay up in the form of various hidden taxes such as further levy hikes on fuel and the Road Accident Fund.
