#YourTown campaign: AfriForum’s Edenvale branch cleans the Eastleigh stream

As part of AfriForum’s Your Town campaign, the organisation’s Edenvale branch held a clean-up operation on 19 October 2019 during which they cleaned the stream in Eastleigh, as well as the surrounding areas.

The branch’s management, in cooperation with the Edenvale Lions basketball team, met at the corner of First Drive and Short Street in Edenvale at about 09:00 and started collecting trash from the area. Approximately 40 people took part in the effort and a substantial amount of trash was removed from the stream.

John Dory’s at Edenvale’s Greenstone Mall treated the volunteers with cold drinks and sushi. Everyone who was involved in the clean-up action also received gift vouchers they could use at the restaurant the following Monday.

“We are very thankful for the cooperation between all the role players and for the donations we received. The initiative was a huge success and AfriForum’s Edenvale branch plans to organise similar projects in the future,” says Linda McKenzie, vice chairperson of AfriForum’s Edenvale branch.

“Today’s endeavour proves that community structures need to take initiative and start working for a cleaner, safer and sustainable future,” concludes Peter Kingsley, chairperson of AfriForum’s Edenvale branch.
