AfriForum’s Springs neighbourhood watch on 26 June 2019 arrested two suspects who were presumably involved in a card scam in cooperation with various institutions.
Secure Tech Security from Brakpan was on the trail of a suspicious vehicle and summoned the help of the community. Morné Greyling, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Springs neighbourhood watch, reacted to the request and hastily went to assist them.
Thanks to good cooperation between Secure Tech Security, AfriForum’s Springs neighbourhood watch, SAPPS Security and members of the community group East Rand Ops/911 the vehicle was surrounded and two suspects with possible stolen bank cards in their possession were arrested.
“AfriForum’s Springs neighbourhood watch would like to encourage the community to become involved with safety networks so that we can make Springs a safer environment,” says Greyling.
“Communities and different institutions that cooperate within the framework of the law can deter criminals from an area. It is for this reason that AfriForum is establishing neighbourhood watches and thereby making communities more prepared,” says Hillel Coetzer, AfriForum’s Head of Community Safety for the Northern Region.
