The Ekurhuleni Metro announced the dates for the East Rand’s IDP public participation meetings on Saturday 30 March 2019 on Facebook.
The meetings were announced to the public on very short notice, as the first meetings are set to be held already on 2, 3 and 4 April 2019. AfriForum’s branch managements on the East Rand will however serve letters of demand on the respective members of the Mayoral Committee at these meetings. They will attempt to demand the postponement of the meetings to allow the public enough time to properly participate in the process.
AfriForum’s East Rand branches have been involved since October 2018 in compiling detailed comment on problems experienced in the various towns. The comments will be submitted during the meetings. Branch managements focused on municipal expenses, the municipalities’ spatial development plans (SDP) and the zoning of various open spaces.
“It is very important that the public takes note of the IDP process and attend public participation meetings that will be held in April 2019. We have to have input in the allocation of resources and service delivery, as well as what the municipality plans for each suburb,” says Marie Naude, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the East Rand.
