The AfriForum branch in Potchefstroom dedicated the first week of October to repairing almost 150 potholes in Potchefstroom. The project forms part of this civil rights organisation’s #YourTown campaign, which is aimed at addressing problems in towns itself.

More than 90 potholes were repaired in Parys Avenue after many a resident complained about the poor state of this avenue. The team also painted traffic lines and erected traffic signs at the crossing of the N12 and MC Rhoode Street, after which they continued repairs in Klingenberg Street on 6 October and repaired another 50 potholes in Parys Avenue on 8 October.

According to Kappie van Wyk, acting Chairperson of AfriForum’s Potchefstroom branch, the formidable team comprises a group of volunteers who worked from dawn to dusk to assist Dirk Venter. Venter became famous after he had repaired many potholes in Potchefstroom himself.

“Our aim with the #YourTown campaign is to create hope in our communities. We want to thank every person who has sacrificed their time to help make Potchefstroom a free, safe and prosperous town,” Van Wyk says.
