The civil rights organisation AfriForum welcomes the firing of Ministers Mosebenzi Zwane, David Mahlobo, Lynne Brown, Des van Rooyen and Fikile Mbalula.
According to Kallie Kriel, CEO of AfriForum, it was of the utmost importance that Ministers who are linked to state capture were fired, and also that those who were unfit for their positions were removed from Cabinet. This will make a new start possible.
According to Kriel, AfriForum is unhappy about the contentious David Mabuza’s appointment as Deputy President, and also over the inclusion of Bathabile Dlamini in the Cabinet.
Kriel is critical about the fact that Cabinet was not reduced in size.
“AfriForum will keep a close eye on the new Cabinet members to ensure that they are accountable and will not also plunder the State coffers as their predecessors had done,” Kriel says.
