AfriForum’s Kempton Park neighbourhood watch on 6 February 2018 assisted the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department’s (EMPD’s) K9 unit with the arrest of a drug dealer in Kempton Park.
This follows after the neighbourhood watch on 9 January 2018 received information from a resident regarding a house where drugs were apparently handled. The neighbourhood watch closely observed the residence and immediately notified the EMPD when its suspicions were confirmed.
The EMPD’s K9 unit executed a raid on the residence early on Tuesday morning during which a suspect was found in possession of dagga, crystal methamphetamine (tik) and other drugs. The suspect was arrested immediately and taken to the Norkem Park police station.
“We are grateful for the community’s vigilance, as well as the excellent conduct by the EMPD and the K9 unit. An established safety network is the key to combating crime,” says Dirk Venter, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Kempton Park neighbourhood watch.
